In the Ostrava mines, the word “cyp” had been used since the 19th century to refer to a small horse or pony that pulled carts loaded with coal or mine waste through the mines. It never left the mine during its entire life, and only death brought it to the surface. With the advent of mechanization, the horses were phased out of the mines, but the word “cyp” has survived. Often, new recruits or miners’ assistants—known as “helfři”—had to push the carts by hand at the working face or beneath the cutting area. In this way, they figuratively replaced the horses (cyps). Of course, no one liked this work, so they protested against it with the words: “Am I some kind of cyp that I have to do this?” But over time, the original meaning of the word “cyp” faded, and by the mid-20th century, no one knew its exact meaning anymore, and it took on a rather derogatory connotation.

A novice miner, or newcomer, was referred to in the Ostrava region as a “cyp” or “cip,” and this word is still used there today as an insult.

This game is really lame. My favorite player, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, isn't in it, and I'm sad. I really like that player. The game is great, but I miss Zlatan. I have to give it a thumbs-down, though, because Zlatan isn't in it.
