It's simple: if you collect all those hidden defense items, you'll escape the monster at the end. If you don't collect them all, the monster will defeat you, but the game will end anyway.

It's fun to keep discovering new passages :D

It's a wonderful game—yes, it's challenging, but it's amazing! While playing, there were moments when I wondered if I had actually been transported into the world of another planet! It's seriously a great game!

I finished the game, and the ending only makes sense if he didn't collect them all—because I had all those screwdrivers, then I played it again and it didn't make sense, but then I used that one lever, and it made sense: the planet explodes, the monster shows up, he gets into therocket, flies off into space, and bombs the monster from space. (Shoots it to pieces.) And that’s the end—he flies away.
